I had left a sleepy little village in Tuscany and had landed in Prague. Funny enough this trip was the catalyst that set off this new life of mine - because why not try to work in Italy when you're a winemaker and your friend is getting married right in the middle of vendemmia (wine harvest) in Prague?
You know that scene when Kate Winslet's character lands in Los Angles in The Holiday? Despite that she was headed in the wrong direction on the PCH, the open wonder on her face as her driver took her through the iconic scenery, face smashed against the glass? That was me, but in Prague. Mouth open I was not prepared for the beauty, charm and romanticism that is the capital city of the Czech Republic.
I arrived to an empty apartment, Negina had arrived first and was out running an errand and Hannah was set to arrive in an hour or so. Stepping into the space my first reaction was "holy shit" my second reaction was "holy fucking shit".
The apartment was massive and had the air of such sophistication that I kind of froze, then in quick succession became so giddy I was borderline manic. Do I take my shoes off? No time, I dropped my bags and started running from room to room, and then i saw it; the balcony. Unlocking all the jams I swung the doors open in a creak and stepped out onto a terrace that over looked Malostranské Square.
